Venture Meet-Up is a combination speaker series, skills building, and networking forum for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to learn more about business in a casual setting. The events are free of charge and open to any SFU student, any current post-secondary student, and recent SFU alumni.

Whether you’re looking to improve your current business skills, learn more about business, hear people’s business stories and experiences, form teams to create start-up businesses, or work on project ideas, Venture Meet-Up is for YOU!

The Summer 2010 Meet-up series features clients of SFU Venture Connection’s Venture Labs, an early-stage business incubator. These students and recent alumni have gone through hoops and bounds to get to where they are today with their business are offering their experience and wisdom as they understand what it’s like to run a business from a student’s perspective.

ABOUT NUXD: Nu Experience Design, Inc. is an interactive technology and experience design firm providing cutting-edge advertising technologies designed to target and engage consumers with a corporate brand or marketing message. NuXD, Inc. differentiates itself by offering custom interactive advertising without the custom interactive prices. This is made possible through their signature ad creation software and input sensor hardware package. The software interface converts static ad components to an interactive installation ad using a variety of input/output settings. Interactive inputs include touch, motion, photo, email, video, sms/text messaging and audio. The ad will be uploaded and immediately accessible across a large network of locations including malls and airports. The company is operated by two SFU alumni, Christie Anderson and Diana Kidd. 

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:   With a major in the Interactive Arts and Technology and minor in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, Diana Kidd brings a cohesive knowledge and understanding of innovation technology and its application to business. She brings several years of industry experience in real estate marketing as well as additional experience in other entrepreneurial ventures. As the interactive project manager at NuXD, Diana is active in facilitating the creative process, performing user analysis as well as conducting technical writing, designing, and documentation.  Christie Anderson’s interest in design sparked through early training in fine arts. Christie’s education then continued at Simon Fraser University where she holds a Bachelor of Science in Interaction Design. Christie brings several years of fine art, graphic design and design consulting experience for clients in theatre, wind energy, consulting and industrial engineering. As the creative director NuXD, Christie uses her industry design experience to oversee the creative design process and ensure quality user experience.

ABOUT MAPT MEDIA: MAPT Media delivers a rich multimedia mapping experience, helping clients connect their users to their destination needs in a friendly environment. Mapt Media has integrated digital advertising and way‐finding technologies to create advertising within kiosks in large public spaces such as malls. This allows the user hands‐on interactivity with both the system’s featured advertising and on the general map that leads users to their destination.

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: MAPT’s President, Gordon Manson, has a background in Technology and Project Management, with an Electronics Technologist Diploma (BCIT) and a Science Degree (minor BBA) in Interactive Arts and Technology (SFU).  He brings to MAPT a wealth of project management knowledge gained from building a wide array of projects while attending BCIT as an electronics engineering technologist, while attending SFU in various electronics engineering and interactive arts and technology classes, while working in industry as a technologist for a research and development firm, and while a computer support specialist in a gas corporation and for a computer store. He has far-reaching vision for the future growth of the company that as a result has allowed him to successfully advance the beginnings of the company thus far. This included identifying key people that would have an impact at the recognition of the technology, as well as laying the necessary promotion stages of the business to foment increased confidence in our product. Gordon also has programming, hardware, and design skills at his disposal.
