Returning for a second year, Katherine will bring her past experience as the Director of External Relations to the Entrepreneurship table. Studying Business and Criminology, her passion resides in developing social enterprises to address the problems experienced by marginalized groups. In her free time Katherine likes to pursue different activities that may or may not help her prove that she is the epitome of Murphy's law. Silkie is starting her fourth year at SFU in pursuit of a double major between Business and Communications with an unknown Business concentration and Media Studies as her concentration for Communications. When Silkie heard of SIFE’s Community Development program, she was reminded of her roots in event planning with the South Burnaby Neighborhood house and realized what her university experience was missing: a connection with her community. In between school, working at The Bank of Montreal, and general SIFE-ness, Silkie always takes time-outs to catch up on her favorite fashion blogs, shop online and check out the latest fashion happenings within Vancouver! She recommends www.lookbook.nu for fellow fashion lovers and procrastinators! Stepping into the role of Director of External Relations for the 2009-2010 year, Silkie hopes to raise SIFE Simon Fraser’s profile within Metro-Vancouver as the hub for student entrepreneurs while recognising their contribution to the local community.
